The Heights – Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and Riverside Heights
We mean no disrespect when we lump Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and Riverside Heights together, however it is similarly difficult to separate them. Largely defined by bungalow and Mediterranean revival architecture, the three Heights are some of the first “suburbs” of Tampa. Many buildings constructed in the early 1900s are still functioning and add to the nostalgic nature of this neighborhood. Seminole, Tampa and Riverside Heights enjoy an urban, hip vibe due to a recent renaissance. The community has benefitted by the addition of numerous trendy restaurants and pubs.
The Refinery, voted one of the Top 10 Restaurants in Tampa Bay, and finalist in the James Beard Awards for the last several years, is a must visit. To get your craft beer on, visit The Independent or the Mermaid. Don’t forget the ORIGINAL Taco Bus for late night cravings, The Front Porch for a varied and wonderful menu, and Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café for great local music and Soul Food Sunday brunch. A new favorite, Lee’s Grocery, serves craft beer, gourmet pizza and wings. The Seminole Heights Market runs on the 2nd Sunday of the month (fall through spring) on the grounds of the gothic revival Hillsborough High School is a great place to meet up with friends, and serves up something for everyone from unique art to artisanal cheeses to specialty salsas.
